The first thing I would recommend for anyone who has not been here before is to check the web. Try these:

Take either ferry, from Tsawwassen or Horseshoe Bay, to Nanaimo. Check the website at http://www.bcferries.bc.ca/schedules/mainland/index.html for sailing  times. Head north on highway 19, The Inland Highway, take the first exit to Parksville. This will take you onto the main road, 19a, through town, and the sign for the turnoff to the community park is big. (No--you won't get lost--this is a small town!) Turn right and drive through the parking lot past the curling rink, into the big gravel parking lot right beside the flying field.

This being at this time of year a tourist town, there are lots of places to stay and eat, many quite close to the park. There is only one food concession in the park--don't rely on it for food. It is always much too busy, with long lines.

Official times are from 10am until 5pm, but we all know that kite fliers are not much for official times! Come early, stay late, please yourself. The object is fun.
