In Memory of Alec Ross Marshall
August 29, 1922 – February 9, 2005
Alec Marshall served as a Gunner and an artillery surveyor in the Canadian Army at home and in Holland during the War. Upon his return to Canada, he met and married his beloved wife, Elsie Day who predeceased him in 1989. Throughout his life, he was a passionate supporter of Scottish music and dancing and was a Scottish Country Dancer of note. He was particularly active as an organizer and supporter of youth pipe bands, accepting leadership roles in the executives and parent auxiliaries of the Highland Laddies Pipe Band, the Vancouver Kiwanis Pipe Band and the Burnaby Ladies Pipe Band. On his retirement, he took up the sport of kite flying as both a judge and competitor and traveled widely in both capacities. Many children in Chilliwack knew him as a kite enthusiast since he was always willing and available to elementary school classes to demonstrate kite making and flying. Alec is survived by his son Sandy; daughters Janice and Laurel; grandsons Keith, Collin, Justin, Christopher and Douglas and by his granddaughters Rosanne and Alison.
